There’s plenty of discussion on the web about the correct value pots to use for single coil pickups or humbuckers, but very little information about mixing humbuckers and single coil pickups if you have a guitar that mixes humbuckers with single coils, you might be wondering if you’re using the best value pot. Wiring humbucker as single coil. In this video i’ll show you how to wire a humbucker so you can switch between standard humbucker series wiring, or isolate just the north coil, or just the south coil keeping your single.
wiring humbucker as single coil
Coil-splitting humbucker wiring #1: splitting to the south coil this wiring splits the humbucker in half, shunting one coil to ground and leaving the other coil engaged like a true single-coil pickup in this mode, the hum-cancelling function is no longer active, so you’ll get the hum and noise of any single-coil pickup. Wiring the coils in parallel will produce a brighter tone (with somewhat less volume than series), but will still be humbucking. again, the humbucker could be permanently wired in the manner shown in the above diagram. however, if you permanently wire the humbucker for series or parallel, you are seriously limiting your tone options.. Less clarity of sound. the reason humbuckers are good at keeping away unwanted feedback is the same reason some players don’t like them as much as single coils; the clarity and bite of tone is muffled on a humbucker. it won’t swallow your notes whole, but it will sound less clear because of a humbucker’s construction. the chime effect you.
